Boyertown borough is located in Berks County, Pa. This town was named after two brothers, Henry and Daniel Boyer. There are plenty of historical events as well as restored buildings dating back to the early 1600′s. A very well known tragedy was the Rhoads Opera House fire which led to the death of approximately 170 people. As result of this, there are now well-lit red Exit signs at any venue with a large amount of people.
In addition to the history surrounding the Rhoads Opera House fire, there are other fun historical venues in Boyertown. The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles houses dozens of automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles that were manufactured right here in Pennsylvania while the industry was still in its infancy. Prior to that time, the region produced multitudes of horse-drawn vehicles, of which many examples can be found at the Museum. Also the oldColebrookdale Railroad has been restored and is now open for riders to enjoy.
Boyertown Area School District is comprised of both Berks and Montgomery Counties. The school district is highly ranked and has received many awards! Academically, BASD has one of the highest scores on statewide assessments compared with other Berks County schools and is ranked above average when compared with other Montgomery County school districts. The School District also has the lowest taxation rate in Montgomery County.
There are many community parks, the largest being Boyertown Community Park. This park includes playgrounds, pavilions, baseball fields, Frisbee golf course, walking trails and a large community pool! Many enjoy the shops and restaurants along the main drag in Boyertown also known as Philadelphia Avenue/Route 73. Unique to this town are the 71 beautifully painted and decorated large fiberglass bears that can be found all throughout Boyertown!
Boyertown is a great area to enjoy the country life, raise a family, and yet still be close to all major roadways, cities and towns near Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs.
